More three lessons of wisdom in technology

21 Jan

The answer is not always what we expect.                                  naveVidro

The researcher Sylvia Earle has spent decades wanting to see the deepest ocean, thinking about a submarine that could lead researchers there, and what material should be done this submarine.

After years founded a company to explore glass, which with 10 to 15 inches thick will be able to explore with security the depths of the sea, founded a company Deep Ocean Exploration and Research Marine.

The director of this company states: “The glass is the oldest material known to man and one of the less we understand.”

There is always something unexpected

This story is recent, on the Philae probe who posed in a comet.

Who explains this challenge is Ulamec Stephan, director of Philae program, which explains that this landing was to complicated “We had no idea of the size, the cycle of day and night or the intensity of the gravity of the comet. We did not know what it was like its surface or the impact velocity of the equipment “, the ship successfully landed, but a position that soon stopped.

Wisdom and genius are elusive

Many brilliant and wise people do not consider themselves as such, the neuroscientist Sheila Nirenberg says:.. “I kind of ignore it and continue playing life you do what you do something independent label that give you I can not think of another way to explain the genius “.

Boris Broys and postmodern art

08 Jan

BorisGroysIt seems that there is little to say about art, or is there perhaps a confusion between the limits of what is guaranteed and what is not, but I think Boris Groys and Jacques Rancière (gets to last post) can rather say something.
Boris Groys is a German 68-year-old study of mathematics from 1965 to 1971 at the University of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), working on a lot of research and attended the Moscow Conceptualism movement and published in 1979 the essay “Romantic Conceptualism of Moscow “then in 1981, was doing his PhD in philosophy at the University of Munich.
Groys is a member of the Association Internationale des Critiques d’Art (Ahikam), and has served as a partner of numerous institutions, including the International Research Center for Cultural Studies (IFK) in Vienna, Austria, Harvard University Art Museum, and University of Pittsburg.
Wrote the controversial “The Communist Postscript” (2010) and “Introduction to Antiphilosophy” (2012), but his little essay on Art in the age of digitization, for me an important work, which analyzes the famous work of Walter Benjamin “The Work of art in the Age of Mechanical reproduction “which assumes the possibility of a technically identical and perfect reproduction of form that does not allow a distinction between the original and the copy (Groys, 2010).
He teaches since 1994, philosophy and media theory at the Academy of Design (Hochschule für Gertaltung), which is directed by Peter Sloterdijk in Karlsruhe (Germany) our next post.
Boris Groys in his work art and philosophy have different treatments, for him, both one and the other mainly deal with issues that do not admit a permanent solution and therefore are immortal, in this approach, objectivity and subjectivity are mixed, and this perspective agreed.
Cultural requirements are not fictitious, say to a spectrum of things, and almost always the goal of artists and thinkers is to overcome what is considered more advanced, it has something dead in a field, and so position yourself in the best culture to the point which makes mortal immortal for having fulfilled the imaginary requirement of his time, and that this immortality is artificial, has the effect of political awareness
So what Groys proposed is that the symbolic space of art must include the dead, represented by his works, images, theories, attitudes, languages.
So the real cultural pressure does not come from positions of power, but from the dead and then it is a much more serious case that living as they continue to disturb this as creators
It’s what makes dead artists still in competition; as they, want, for example, get to have their whole issues in their libraries.

Epiphany Eucharist and philosophy

02 Jan

EucharistiaThe passage of the boy-God in Earth is followed by his manifestation to men, the Epiphany, which could disappear after death and crucifixion of what was pure manifestation of the divine in the midst of the human race, we could say the manifestation of Being par excellence between beings and loved, themes dear to Husserl, Heidegger, and Derrida Deleuze..

But there are between beings a manifestation of Being, that is those who gather in full open attitude and make it to the negation of being, to be with each other, breaking the classical logic, non-being is to be because it is to be with the other, as thought Levinas and Paul Ricoeur.

The mystical portion of the presence of Jesus, for those who believe the God-man, who on the cross is similar to hommo sacer, figure used by Giorgio Agamben and Hanna Arendt and recently also Slavoj Zizek, figure used to tell the common man deprived of his humanity, although this can not be confused with a religious figure, we could say was deprived even of this, here the epiphany becomes Eucharistia if we think of something, not in fact, pure one, even to save some trace of Being .

Eucharistia εὐχαριστία the Greek, the Catholic Christian explanation of transubstantiation of the body of Jesus in the bread and wine at the apex of a Mass, but I like to remember the Raphael above the Vatican, called “The dispute of the sacrament” between Christian and religious figures is there is a dispute between philosophy and theology or between a divine nature and a pure substance with a monstrance on an altar, puts down the religious figures amid worldly philosophers.

If there is a tension between being and the being, Deleuze says “the heavenly and a divine understanding inaccessible to our representative thought, or the infernal short, unfathomable to us, an ocean of dissimilarity”, so are not beings and things but able to think one pure Being transformed into pure thing, or rather pure “noúmeno”, the thing to the classics, misunderstood by Kant which is pure dissimilarity.

Eucharistia is being turned into noúmeno, person transformed into substance, something defined by Christians as “transubstantiation”, unfathomable but not unreachable.

Dystopia: discourse and corruption

30 Dec

Barry_LyndonIn the brazilian elections speeches were positive all was well, passed the elections and now goes wrong, go up gasoline, energy and of course the salary of corrupt, that is the dystopia (in Brazil).
Historically the term is connected to totalitarianism systems, authoritarianism, by a large oppressive control of society, shown corruptible easing norms created for the common good where technology is used as a control tool, is the State, whether institutions or even corporations, not by its citizens.
The term appeared the first time in a speech Stuart Mill (also attributed to Gregg Weber in the British Parliament in 1868, he said: “It is probably too flattering to call them utopian, should instead be called dis-topics [‘provisions ‘of the ancient Greek δυσ, translit dys:.’ distress, pain ‘] or shard-topics [‘ Caco ‘, the Greek κακός, translit kakos:. “. Bad, bad’] what is commonly called utopia is too good to be feasible, but what they seem to defend is too bad to be feasible. “
In cinema Stanley Krubick is an expert of dystopias: “A Clockwork Orange”, “The brave new world,” but we can also mention the epic: “Blade Runner”, “Minority Report”, later: “Matrix”, “Children of Men “(2006) and” Black Swan “(2010) and the very recent” Interstellar “(2014).
I’ll see (had read) the film Kubrick “Barry Lyndon” based on the novel of the Indo-British William Thackeray “Barry Lyndon Memories” (1884), which tells of the rise and fall of a penetrates the Irish nobility, while showing the negative face of this nobility.
Any resemblance to our reality is not mere coincidence, gives food for thought.

Five new thinkers in 2014

26 Dec

2015Next to already established Edgar Morin, Manuel Castells and Peter Sloterdjik, which had a famous program in Germany Rüdiger Safranski along with about culture, which lasted 10 years, and that is the end of Paul Ricoeur and Emmanuel Levinas in past century, not yet “passed”, but known by the questions and issues raised.
Although the best known of Sloterdjik is “Rules for the human park” by the controversy it caused, is his discussion of “spheres” and “contempt of the masses” point to the major contemporary issues.
Is that something new can still emerge? can always, I have not yet definitive opinion, but I quote a few that should be taken seriously.
I mention two Europeans: the weak-Algerian Jacques Ranciére (You can still talk about democracy?) And Piero Coda (Della Trinita), an American Martha Nussbaum (Political Emotions: Why Love Matters For Justice) and Boris Groys an American (On the New ) and could not fail to miss an oriental, of course must have other, the japanese-american Francis Fukuyama (The end of History and the last Man).
Yes Fukuyama was criticized for its “end of history”, and this may provide little attention to what could be translated as “end of historical materialism” and his book “Political Order and Political Decay” (2014), which should be read by many of the world’s political and states that have a hole (gap) history in politics, especially in the western.
Caught  Ranciére and Piero Coda basic ideas to think, the first states that no one has more intelligence than anyone else and the second gives huge clues to a multicultural and multi-religious relationship to the world of today, with a history of life and not to think.
Gives food for thought and good thinking, humanity needs answers, what are the issues?

Brazilian independent theater at risk

18 Dec

DespejoHipHóperaThe most popular form of cultural expression, older remains the theater, and the independent theater plays a key role in this, emerges from the national and São Paulo culture more freely and democratically.
Due to real estate speculation, happened yesterday in São Paulo Cultural Center the first protest that shows the fragile situation of the independent São Paulo theater groups, who may lose their spaces or being moved to less visible places.
The fact happened last November with the Testimonials Bartholomew Center, which is a mixture of epic theater and hip-hop, with 15 years on the road and even with the rent on time, the group had to give the space a shed in Pompeii (west side of São Paulo), see photo above the dump.
A manifesto entitled Manifesto “In Defense of Cultural Territories Threatened” or public recognition that the 22 theater groups are the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the City of São Paulo, a document excerpt says “Can not that the right to private goods market a few is more important than the cultural heritage of many. “
Social networks helped Brincante group to remain in place, Vila Madalena (West Zone) with #ficabrincante campaign, by court decision the institute will remain there in 2015.

04 Dec

The Gotham Awards is given to independentBirdMan producers.

Birdman was made by mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu and won best film, and Michael Keaton in acting categories, so it pays to keep an eye on this film.

The film tells the drama of an actor who is famous for portraying superheroes and struggle to mount a Broadway play, but in the days before the opening night he starts a fight against itself to recover your family, your career and himself.

The public award went to Boyhood from childhood to youth, Richard Linklater, the New York critics are calling “film of the year.

The film was made for 12 years and the actor Ellar Coltrane (who won best actor), started the film to 6 years old recordings and only finished at 8 years of age, and during a decade Coltrane and the rest of the cast is gathered in periods of three to four days a year for filming.
The team met annually to discuss the story and script changes and therefore a collective and dynamic proposal, which is in itself a new paradigm.

Projects that can help the planet

14 Nov

EarthInsightMany new technologies are helping conservationists to better analyze the data they collect to improve the ways they protect the wildlife and natural habitats, retaining not only animals, but also the whole ecosystem present.

The TechRepublic article points to several ongoing projects, such as the program that uses the HP Vertica analytics platform to analyze millions of photos and estimate as a kind of animal is occupying a given area and thus to protect them, using the program Insight Earth.

Another example is that IBM is working to integrate the PAM, a cloud-based application developed by The Nature Conservancy, which enables land managers to monitor and meet environmental goals, a platform called Conservation.io.

The Nature Conservacy can also use data from various crowdsourcing bird watchers who use eBird, satellite images and data to create diamonds BirdReturn, which allows to observe and assist in the control birds nest sites, food and bath during their migration.

Other projects are cited:  Bumble Bee Watch is one crowdsourced, other crowdsourcing using  Intel card is Galileo board, and many others.
