Religious apostasy

14 Nov

Contrary to what is commonly known, apostasy the apostle does not refer to a deviation or departure from faith and religious practice, most of the time it is hidden because of some difficulty in the manifestation of disbelief or remoteness.

The apostasy comes from the ancient Greek απόστασις [apostasy], “being far from” and has definite and deliberate meaning of something, such as a renunciation of faith or mere indoctrination without a questioning and an open permission of dialogue.

In a sense, even within religions the concept is present in sectors that wish to shed light on blind adherence, and also in the practice of many leaders, including Jesus who abominated Pharisaism, and in general, when a leader dies , A prophet or a great thinker, his followers want to replace him and carry out the most common type of apostasy, to deny the very founder of a chain.

But what are the most common types of apostasy these days, I can see one: fideism, if it is true that faith is believing what one does not see, it is also true that we can not believe in any human fantasy without a serious questioning , Otherwise we are creating another type of fanaticism for humanity, there are already many.

We could observe two more dangerous ones: the sociological one, the one that tries to affirm the religion with a sociological foundation that would solve the great crises of the humanity, without any social, anthropological or philosophical study; And in my view an even more dangerous one is the approximation of the faith of a certain ideological current.

Dangerous because turning an ideology into a blind faith can lead not only to bleeding wars, bigotry, and barbarism; But especially to prevent profound changes on the way in a society not by a fundamentalist defense of a society whose foundations are outdated.
